Ho – it is one of those murky mornings when the sun is tantalisingly winking through the mist with the possible promise of warmth later in the day. We have just had a run of beautiful spring weather – all the daffodils are doing their daffodil thing and there are bets being taken on whether or not they will last until next Sunday (Mothering Sunday here in UK when mothers are handed posies of spring flowers at the Mothering Sunday Church service).
Already the sap is rising and there is a ‘spring’ in people’s step. Out and about, people are smiling at each other! It’s great to be alive!
No more hanging about the house trying to ignore the chores – it’s ‘get out there and DO something’ time of year! So, watch this space for a photo-diary of the resurrection of the Canary-coloured Caravan – which sadly succumbed to the winter weather. Plans are afoot and help is at hand – so it stands a chance of actually happening! I’ll try to record the progress here – look out later on – I’ll pop a ‘before’ picture on the blog.
Everyone is getting involved – OV walked the site and discussed it all with our lovely friendly chippy neighbour (who is wading in manfully!) I have the plans drawn out and a paint shopping list ready for later today and Sherpa kept a beady eye on the printer as I printed out a poster about it (she spends most mornings now curled up on top of the printer, cushioned by a jiffy bag!) Watching the paper emerge is good fun, but involves a lot of leaning – with possible hilarious consequences! (OK I’ll try and get a photo of it for all you cat lovers!)
So, am I bored? No way! What with resurrecting the caravan, mending the greenhouse, building a papier mache model of the Church spire and constructing a cockerel weather vane (don’t ask!) life is pretty full on – oh, and the warm weather has made the grass grow too… so guess what we have been doing… yeah, back out with the mower.
Must spring off now and run the Honey Pot book shop/fair trade outlet/coffee and chat exchange. ‘Backsun.’
Sherpa ‘on top’ of paperwork! and “Before” view of the canary-coloured caravan project!

Re Sherpa and her resting place, the “real” Morgana’s Cat (Onyx) curls up on Morgana’s internet router. When I first met Onyx she was curled up on top of Morgana’s crt monitor – you can’t do that with modern flat-screen monitors of course!
I’m going to be looking forward to those pictures (since I’m not sure what a Caravan is?). Spring is definitely popping up over here as well. It seems like our grass grew overnight and filled in the yard in almost two days! We still have some tulips, but other blooms are starting to join them. I just love spring and all the reminders of rebirth that are everywhere abundant. The hard part is keeping the kids on task with their schoolwork when the weather is so nice. Our spring temperatures don’t last long – we will be in the 90s today (this is “roller coaster weather” season for us), but back down in the 70s tomorrow. It won’t be much longer until the 90s are here to stay, so we’ve got to get out and make the most of the cooler days.
Have a wonderful weekend! And you are so right – bored in spring? No way! 🙂
Ah, Susan – look for an illustrated copy of “The Wind in the Willows” and you will find the ‘Canary-coloured Caravan’ there. I think it may translate as a ‘trailer’ or ‘wagon’???
I feel thoroughly cooked having read about the temparature where you live – it made it to 18 celsius here yesterday – which was warm enough for me!
Ha! I went for the closest copy of the book in my dd’s room and said, “Do you know what the canary-coloured caravan is?” “Well yea–ah,” was the gracious reply from the stinker. She showed me the picture and I immediately went “Oh! Like the gypsy wagon in the Miss Read books.” 🙂 What a fun project! I will definitely be on the lookout for the pictures of the resurrection process. I’m continually amazed at how much of my memory I have lost, but the picture brought the whole story back (as well as Miss Read’s).
I’ve just popped over here after thoroughly enjoying reading about your life in books, on your son’s blog. I’ll add you to my blog roll and will be back soon to luxuriate in all your back posts. I have to make dinner now, so better not linger…
In the meantime, good luck with the caravan restoration, your cat is adorable and I’d ALWAYS recommend a re-read of Great Expectations! 🙂
