summer sands are running out

One more day of summer remains – and on this penultimate day I have celebrated the glorious sunshine by slogging away at sorting and tidying and cleaning – both the house and the ‘Honey Pot’, with much help from OV who also managed to do some serious tidying up in the garden AND undertake some research on the internet.  Wow!
Our ‘togetherness’ went as far as chopping up windfall apples and preparing them for the freezer – busy busy busy!

Ok, so summer may be on its way out, but autumn is a breath away with all the delights of seasonal treats.  The vegetable patch is yielding the last of the year’s produce – the autumn fruiting raspberries are providing a steady flow of fruit and the runner beans are delicious.  All the other veg seems to have been munched by ‘nasties’ lurking in the soil or hovering overhead (it’s a conspiracy between creepy crawlies and flying gluttons).  But hey, I love runner beans, I love raspberries and I love cooked apple, so all is right with the world! (We even have blackberries appearing in the garden and along the hedge… delightful!)

3 months of plenty! How delightful!  So I won’t mind that summer is waving farewell or that winter is waiting in the wings – even though I have already been asked what I planning for Christmas!!  ‘Go with the flow’ is the watchword for the season.  Relax and enjoy!

About apthomas

I love books, reading, writing, baking, chocolate, painting, sewing, people and fairtrade - not necessarily in that order. I am a lazy gardener - who loves the garden, and a lazy housewife who likes the place to be warm and welcoming. I live in beautiful Somerset - but have had to leave the countryside at a little distance, having moved into town.
