Oh dear, and only the back of the van (marginally) covered – that is to say, a piece of grubby hardboard is sort of fixed in place. The side walls need fixing, the gaps at the back need filling and the whole thing needs waterproofing. Then there’s the floor to put in place and the doors waterproofed and fixed back on at the front.
OV managed to put the panel on at the back – which involved some difficult sawing and the removal of huge nails. He performed this task stoically whilst I dilly-dallied about trying to be helpful. An anxious hour or so, which resolved itself into supper – whilst abandoning the ‘van to its fate.
Do willing and able carpenters drop from the sky when most needed?
I have been amused by the words of wisdom appearing at the side of this blog throughout the last few days – exhorting us to do the things we find impossible, seize the moment, stiffen the sinews, summon the blood and disguise fair nature with ill-favoured rage (or summat!)
Anyone got half an hour to spare?
In other news (as one of our sons would say) we have jackdaws building a nest in our chimney – this is a new experience of helplessness – hearing them busily at work filling the stack with twigs and other material and waiting to hear from the man who can do something about it. The birds positively ‘crow’ their supremacy over us with every new layer of muck. Delightful.
